A very good clarification of one the most misused passages of Scripture. No righteous act is worth anything as far as salvation goes, but after we belong to Christ, His Spirit works in us, enabling us to do things pleasing to the Father. We may still be unprofitable servants, as Christ’s sacrifice is to high a debt to repay, but that does not mean we cannot be useful servants

WLO_doinggoodIsaiah 64:6 (“all our righteous acts are like filthy rags”) is often quoted by folks as proof that any effort on our part to do good still comes across as pretty putrid in God’s sight. As Kevin DeYoung explains in The Hole in Our Holiness, however, that’s just bad exegesis–and it paints a terribly unflattering (and woefully inaccurate) picture of our God, to us and to the world:

The “righteous deeds” Isaiah has in mind are most likely the perfunctory rituals offered by Israel without sincere faith and without wholehearted obedience. In Isaiah 65:1–7 the Lord rejects Israel’s sinful sacrifices. They are an insult to the Lord, smoke in his nostrils, just like the ritual “obedience” of Isaiah 58 that did not impress the Lord because his people were oppressing the poor. Their “righteous deeds” were “filthy rags” (64:6, KJV) because they weren’t righteous at all. They looked good but…

The Continued Evolution of Ta Ethne

Ta Ethne is continuing to grow. 2012 saw some amazing results, many more ministry opportunities and some wonderful friends made from different parts of the world. Resources were added and the support has been overwhelming. 2013 seems to be full of even more opportunity. Currently we are exploring a new web host for our ministry, which will allow us to post videos and podcasts that are more accessible than what we are using now. With the Lord’s blessing, we will be looking to launch the new website before April.
The blog here will continue as before, and hopefully we will be able to integrate it into our new web site as well. WordPress has been a terrific partner, with their customer support being very helpful with us. For that reason, we will continue using this forum as our primary news outlet in keeping you updated with the day-to-day activities here at Ta Ethne.
Ta Ethne also has a new email address: taethne@outlook.com
We also hope to start using our Facebook page more consistently in 2013. So many of our followers use this particular social media application that we are working on a schedule to use our page more effectively.
Continue to be in pray as God grows us and enables us to serve His ministers even more effectively this year. If you have a prayer need, please email us at tasethne@outlook.com

Commentary on Jude

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide resources to leaders in the Kingdom of God, Ta Ethne is pleased to announce that, beginning this week, a commentary on Jude will be offered. As this book is still in production, a chapter a week will be posted and become available under the Bible Studies tab. As the work progresses, comments are welcome. When the commentary is finished it will be published in print, Kindle and audio formats. Please, look for the links entitled Dominos: A Dynamic Commentary on the Epistle of Jude under the Bible Studies tab.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Love

This picture combines my two loves. In this photo there is my wife, sitting in Narnia with Aslan looking over her shoulder. I love my Lord Jesus and I love my wife. Since I believe He gave her to me, I love a shot that puts the two together.
